What room types can I expect?
Many of the accommodations on our list offer roomy accommodations for single travelers and couples. You may need to book earlier, though, if you want family rooms since these may sell out faster on your dates.
Is my visa information necessary to book the hotels?
Yes. Some of the hotels may need to hold a small amount or deposit to check the validity of your card. The amount is returned after your stay. For specific uses of your card and information, contact the property and ask.
What kind of discounts can I get?
Barcelona Tourism offers a list of discounted entrance tickets to popular local sights in the city. The list also includes cruise tickets, so that you can experience the city from a different perspective. From churches and whimsical buildings to world-famous architecture and cuisine, you can enjoy discounted entrance tickets, cruise rates, hotel rooms and meals.
Do I need medical care and health care insurance?
Visitors from the European Union are required to pack along the blue EHIC card—European Health Insurance Card—so you can avail of free medical assistance in case of emergencies. Non-EU/EEA nationals who wish to visit Barcelona will need to provide proof of private insurance health insurance before being granted a visa.
What payment methods can I use?
You can book your hotels and pay for your entrance tickets, cruise tickets and others via credit card. You can even pay cabs in the city by credit card.
What safety information do I need?
Tourists are generally safe and can use public transportation such as the metro, taxis, buses and more without fear or worries. People can walk around safely, day and night.
What is Barcelona's time zone?
Barcelona follows the GMT+1 time zone.
What are the weather conditions like?
Expect the typical Mediterranean climate. Spring weather is warm and hot summers see up to 12 hours of sunshine every day. Winters are mild. Check the weather forecast to know what the weather is like during your trip dates.
Where is Barcelona airport located?
The airport is 20 km from the city and called El Prat. Catalonia has other international airports too. If you are coming from the airport, there’s no metro connection. However, you can take the train, airport bus, taxi or book a private transfer service.
How is the Barcelona public transport system?
Trains, buses, trams, the metro, and city bikes make up the public transport system. You can also hail a cab or pay for a car rental.
What is the currency exchange?
You can withdraw your money from the ATM for an easier transaction. Make sure you inform your bank ahead of time of your travel dates. Some banks may hold your card if you don’t. Withdraw from the bank or use currency exchange services scattered throughout major tourist locations in the city. Travelers’ cheques are harder to exchange and Diners Clubs aren’t widely accepted.
What emergency numbers do I need to know?
To call the main emergency number, press 112. For medical emergencies, press 061. If you need to consult with a doctor or get to a pharmacy or hospital, call the Spanish Medical Information Service at 902-111-44 for help and general information.
Where are the gay hangout spots in Barcelona?
Many gay bars in the city are located in the 3-block area that’s north of Gran Via de Les Corts Catalanes, in the Eixample district—hence the nickname “Gaixample.” To know more about these hangout spots, use the Barcelona Forbidden app.

What do I do if I lose something?
If you lose something in the metro, tram or bus, get in touch with TMB transportation services to check if your item has been found. Collect the item from the Lost Property service Punt TMB Diagonal at the Diagonal metro station customer service center within 48 hours. Don’t forget to bring your ID.
Where do I book a hotel?
Consider your budget and the attractions you want to see. You can stay close to the Ramblas and the old town or pick a hotel in the Gracia district. There are also hotels near the beach and port and the airport. Check the availability of your hotels on Barcelona Tourism so you can start packing for your trip.
